Inside the Faulensee house at Ballenberg, two honeybees are now “floating” in a way you’ve never seen before. Made of Styrofoam, in XXL size, high up in the historic roof truss. They’re an eye-catcher in the new insect and bee exhibition.
Milled, assembled, cured, and painted: that’s how the two figures were created, piece by piece. The biggest challenge was the antennae, legs, and wings. These delicate parts had to be reinforced with particular care so they could withstand the weight and size. Installing them between the old wooden beams also required precise planning to ensure the bees would remain securely and permanently in place. A project resulting from our long-standing collaboration with Ballenberg.
